For those who have traveled the highways and byways of Pennsylvania recently, you
have probably come accross one of these signs.
Yes, it does say what you thought it said.
But don't get your hopes up thinking that PennDOT has decided to modernize the highway
system by using the clustering capabilities, reliability and security of VMS.
This is a VMS system in Pennsylvania!!
A Virtual Messaging System
This electronic light sign is part of a massive network set up by and run remotely from a central
location by PennDOT.
It is, as a matter of fact, computerized, but I think we can guess what computers and
operating system it uses!!
Oh, and one more small note for those concerned about the erosion of personal privacy
in this age of technology.
