Attendance Policy

You will be expected to attend each lab session. If you miss a lab session your instructor has the option of giving you a zero for the assignment or letting you make it up on your own time. You will not be allowed to make up labs that fall either immediately before or immediately after Fall break or Thanksgiving break without permission from me. The library labs will have a single makeup date for those who have an acceptable excuse. If you miss both the library lab and the makeup then you will receive a zero on the library module.

Grading Scale

A ≥ 93 > A- ≥ 90 > B+ ≥ 87 > B &ge 84 > B- ≥ 80 > C+ ≥ 77 > C ≥ 73 > C- ≥ 70 > D+ ≥ 65 > D ≥ 60 > F

A grade of C or better must be achieved in both the course and the lab.

Lab Schedule

The tentative Laboratory schedule is available through the link above. Because each lab assignment must be run once on each weekday, there will be days thoughout the semester when no lab is offered. Please read the schedule carefully

Here is the Intersession laboratory schedule.

Assignments

Each lab will contain assignments from the lab materials to be completed during the lab session. You will turn in either printouts of your work or the disks that contain the work depending on the specific requirements of a particular assignment. Most labs will have an exam that will be given at the end of the lab. Some of the modules will have a test that you take before you start the material. How you do on the test will determine what you do in that module. Some of the modules will have two weeks to complete. There should be enough time to complete your assignment during the lab period. If you need more time, your instructor may, at his or her discretion, allow you extra time outside of lab to complete the assignment. Assignments completed outside of lab must be turned in before the next lab session (or earlier if the instructor wishes) or they will not be graded. If you leave lab before the end of the lab session you must turn in all work to be graded at that time and have completed any test associated with that lab material. A list of the lab topics and preliminary copies of the handouts for some of the labs will be available on my web page . The actual handout that your instructor gives you with the list of tasks to perform will be similar but not necessarily identical to this document. It will, however be useful if you feel that you will need the practice in performing the lab tasks before you go to lab to do your work and have it graded.

Grading Method

Your instructor will have your assignments graded. Each instructor will give you a copy of the grading policy as part of the lab syllabus. All grading policies are reviewed and approved by me. The lab C/IL 102L and the lecture C/IL 102 are separate courses with separate instructors and separate grades. The grades you make in one course will have no bearing on the grade you make in the other one. However, your C/IL 102 instructor will discuss concepts for upcoming labs during the lecture time and will give you assignments that require you to be able to use the skills that you practice in lab.

If you have any questions about the lab that your lab instructor cannot answer please send me e-mail or come by my office.
