C/IL 102 Macintosh Resource Guide
The following programs can be used in place of the Windows
equivalent programs listed under my resources.
There is a macintosh version of NVU available from the the same
site as the windows version. The two are similar enought that the instructions
for the Windows version should work fine with the mac version. There is also a mac version of KompoZer.
Core FTP Lite is not available for macintosh. I use a commercial
program called Fetch, available from
fetchsoftworks.com. It is free for
educational use. There is a link on the left side of their home page which allows you to apply for the educational discount.
Irfanview is not available for mac. I use a program called
GraphicConverter. It costs 35 dollars but has a free trial of 30 days. An
alternative program is GIMP, Gnu Image Manipulation Program, which is very
powerful but also very difficult to learn, is totally free and available in mac,
Windows, unix, and other flavors. The Preview program which comes on
the mac can be used to do very simple picture manipulation. GIMP and GraphicConverter
can be located using your favorite search engine.
